Hillsdale College’s Peter L. Jennings Named Professor of the Year
Associate professor of management honored by 2021 graduating class
Hillsdale, Mich. — Hillsdale College congratulates Peter L. Jennings on being named Professor of the Year by the College’s 2021 graduating class. Jennings is an associate professor of management and the Brouwer D. and Jane E. McIntyre Chair in Business Administration. He has taught at the College since 2016.
Tim Allen is an actor, comedian, writer, director, and producer. He is best known for his starring roles in the ABC sitcom Home Improvement and the ABC/FOX sitcom Last Man Standing. A graduate of Western Michigan University, he has also starred in many movies, including The Santa Clause trilogy, the Toy Story series (as the voice of Buzz Lightyear), For Richer or Poorer, Galaxy Quest, Big Trouble, Christmas with the Kranks, The Shaggy Dog, Wild Hogs, and Crazy on the Outside.
“I’ve never been more proud and grateful to be a part of this College,” Jennings said after accepting the award at this year’s President’s Commencement Dinner. “It is the high honor of my life to serve as your teacher.”
Jennings’s research focuses on moral character and its significance to the practice of leadership. His work has appeared in leading academic journals including the Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Business Ethics Quarterly, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Organizational Dynamics, Organizational Psychology Review, and Military Psychology. He has taught undergraduate, graduate, and executive education courses in leadership and ethics with an emphasis on character formation.
Jennings’s prior academic experience includes a professorship at the Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University, and serving as Research Director for the U.S. Army’s Center for the Army Profession and Ethic at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Jennings also served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. He earned his M.B.A. from Michigan State University and Ph.D. in management from Arizona State University.
To be named Professor of the Year, educators must demonstrate exceptional character and teaching excellence, availability, and generosity in their work with students outside the classroom, community support, and good citizenship through involvement in campus and community organizations and events. Professors are nominated by students through a signed letter of recommendation.
