Hillsdale, Mich.— The Michigan Press Association (MPA) has named Hillsdale College’s student newspaper, The Collegian, the “best weekly college newspaper in Michigan” in the association’s annual College Better Newspaper Contest, the College announced today.

“Hillsdale College has some of the smartest and most talented journalism students in Michigan,” said John J. Miller, director of the college’s Dow Journalism Program. “These awards and recognitions show that a classical liberal arts education produces students who can think and write well—two of the most essential qualities of a good journalist. We couldn’t be happier with this year’s results, and a huge congratulation goes out to all the winners.”

According to a press release from the MPA, more than 670 entries were submitted by 14 Michigan college newspapers. The College “Best Newspaper of the Year” award is presented to the top college newspapers in three divisions: Division 1 (published more than weekly), Division 2 (published weekly), and Division 3 (two-year college publications or newspapers published less than weekly). The Collegian won first place in Division 2.
