Area high schools brought their best five shooters to the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports and Education Center for a 100-target trap event on Saturday, June 5. Quincy High School took home the traveling trophy, beating Hillsdale High School by four targets. Camden took third place, taking their place on the podium for the first time.

“It was a tough competition this year,” said Bart Spieth, rangemaster. “Hillsdale College opens its shooting range to local high school teams for their regular practices. It was great to host the many high school shooters and their families.”

Around 300 community members attended the event. Thirty high-school shooters competed, five per team, representing Reading, Quincy, Hillsdale Academy, Will Carleton Academy, Camden, and Hillsdale schools. Teams paid a $30 entry fee, which included a barbecue lunch from Hillsdale’s Bon Appétit Management Company.

Additional team members divided into groups of three and filled their squad with two sponsors for another 100-target trap event. Scoring first in the Pro-AM with a score of 369 was Hillsdale Academy with the mixed student-and-adult group of Kahle Welden, Andy Welden, Scott Welden, Tony Wright, and Vincent Reagle shooting.

Cody Adams from Hillsdale High School was the top shooter with a 96/100. Championship high school team scores are as follows:

  • Quincy High School – 425
  • Hillsdale High School – 421
  • Camden High School – 387
  • Reading High School – 372
  • Will Carleton Academy – 364
