Hillsdale, Mich.—Secretary of Labor R. Alexander Acosta visited Hillsdale College for the first time on Thursday, August 17 to meet with college president Dr. Larry P. Arnn.

During the visit, the Secretary and Dr. Arnn discussed the work of the department to help American workers, including licensing and overtime reform, and reducing barriers to apprenticeships. Hillsdale graduate Paul Ray serves as Counselor to the Secretary at the Department of Labor.

“Visiting Hillsdale, I learned from Dr. Arnn about his deep passion regarding the impact of Hillsdale graduates on public policy and the national economy,” said Secretary Acosta. “At their best, educational institutions offer lifelong lessons, developed minds and inspired hearts. The success of an educational institution is defined, in part, by the contributions and accomplishments of its students, faculty, and alumni. Those contributions come after education makes a handoff to the workforce. Because of that important transition, the Department of Labor opened a dialogue with educational institutions across our nation to ensure that Americans have the best opportunity to find family-sustaining careers. I want to thank Dr. Arnn and Hillsdale for taking the time and joining with me to further that important discussion.”

Hillsdale College is a leading employer in southern-central Michigan, providing 725 jobs on its 400-acre campus. The college has a 96 percent placement rate for its graduates. Of those graduates working or attending graduate school, 96 percent are in a field relevant to their career interests.
