Faculty Positions

Assistant Professor of French

Hillsdale College seeks an Assistant Professor in French to commence August 2015. Full-time tenure-track position.  Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand by the time of the appointment.  Generalists desired with demonstrated excellence in teaching language and literature at all undergraduate levels, native or near-native proficiency in French and English, and evidence of scholarly potential.  An interest in study abroad is a plus.  All courses are taught in the target language.

Hillsdale College Tenure Track Faculty Position

Applications are invited for a tenure track assistant professor position which starts August 2015.  A commitment to teaching of undergraduate non-majors and physics majors is essential.  A Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field is required.

Hillsdale College, is a private, well-endowed, co-educational, liberal arts school of 1450 students.  It is located on a 200 acre site in a beautiful, small Michigan town.  The physics department is well equipped and has 19,000 sq. ft. of floor space.  Salary is competitive with similar schools.

Biochemistry Position at Hillsdale College

The Chemistry Department at Hillsdale College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in biochemistry. The position starts August 2015 and requires passionate commitment to teaching and research at the undergraduate level. Hillsdale is a thriving, collegial, ACS-approved department with outstanding students and facilities. Each year we graduate 15-25 majors in chemistry and biochemistry. We seek an enthusiastic colleague to join in teaching expanding courses in biochemistry and related areas. The ideal applicant will also have strengths and experience in analytical or physical chemistry so as to be able to teach a foundational course in one of those branches of chemistry in addition to all levels of undergraduate biochemistry. The new faculty member is also likely to share in teaching either general chemistry or the liberal arts core chemistry course. Research area is open but must be suitable for undergraduate participation. Ph.D. required. One Tenure-Track Position Available in Mathematics

Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in mathematics or applied mathematics at the assistant professor level beginning in August 2015.

Candidates for this position are required to have a Ph. D. in mathematics by the time of appointment and to be willing to teach various undergraduate mathematics courses.

Candidates must also have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate mathematics.  Duties for this position include teaching three courses per semester at all levels of undergraduate mathematics.  The Department offers majors in both mathematics and computational mathematics and graduates approximately 15 majors per year.

Assistant Professor of Music, Tenure Track

Hillsdale College is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Music in the area of Music History/Musicology, beginning August 2015. Primary teaching responsibilities will include a sequence of Western music history survey courses for undergraduate music majors and music minors, Liberal Arts Core course in music understanding, and various course topics in the area of music history. A secondary area of musical expertise may be applicable. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, a willingness to mentor undergraduate students in their academic progress, and the desire to work collaboratively in a highly active music department. Salary competitive. Doctorate Required.

Staff Positions

Accounting Assistant

This position consists of auditing 250 check requisitions for proper signatures, account numbers, and backup each week; labeling and balancing equipment over $5000; auditing certain MasterCards each month; greeting guests, and other accounting functions.

The successful candidate must have knowledge of basic office machines, possess good accounting and computer skills, ability to work unsupervised and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with deadline pressures. A front office appearance with a pleasant personality in order to greet and assist frequent visitors is required. Some business school education preferred with two to four years of accounting/computer experience desired.

Dow Center Hotel Guest Services Team Member

Responsibilities include housekeeping in guest rooms, meeting rooms, public areas, and restrooms as well as conference room set-ups, laundry, and front desk operations.

Must provide excellent customer service and perform job duties with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy and be a self-motivator who is able to follow directions thoroughly. Individual must be able to work flexible start/stop times, including weekends, based on occupancy and customer needs.

Dow Center Hotel Weekend Night Auditor

Hours for this night position are Saturday and Sunday 11:30 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. Primary duties are to analyze and process the daily work of the hotel and conference center while handling front desk operations. Basic office skills, an understanding of general math, experience using a computer along with bookkeeping/accounting a must.

This person must provide excellent customer service, be able to multi-task, perform job duties with attention to detail, speed and accuracy and be a self-motivator who is able to follow directions thoroughly. The person also must be a team player and able to help in other guest services and housekeeping areas as needed. Individual must be able to work flexible start/stop times, including weekends, based on occupancy and customer needs.

Cook

This part-time position with benefits requires meal planning, grocery shopping, and preparing lunch and dinner five days a week during the school year for approximately 40 people. Must have ability to work well with the house director in coordinating meals and events. Required qualifications include a high school diploma and two years’ experience in complete meal preparation; or an equivalent combination of education and training sufficient to perform the job.
