Faculty Positions

Classical Education Tenure-Track Position

The Education Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in Classical Education. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline—such as Philosophy, Philosophy of Education, History, Literature, or Classics—at the time of appointment and should possess a firm understanding of the classical liberal arts (trivium and quadrivium) and classical K-12 education. They should have the desire to teach a variety of courses that will include Logic and Rhetoric in Classical Education (EDU 393) and may include Classical Quadrivium (EDU 301), Philosophy of Education (EDU 360) and other offerings in Classical Education. Candidates should also provide evidence of a willingness and ability to assist in managing the growing responsibilities of the Education Department, including preparing Hillsdale College students for teaching positions in classical K-12 schools and offering continuing education for K-12 teachers and administrators.

Biochemistry Tenure-Track Position

The Chemistry Department at Hillsdale College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Biochemistry. The position starts August 2016 and requires enthusiastic commitment to teaching and research at the undergraduate level. Hillsdale has a thriving, collegial, ACS-approved department with six full-time Ph.D. faculty (expanding to seven) and outstanding students and facilities. Each year we graduate 15-25 majors in chemistry and biochemistry. Because of steady growth in our biochemistry major, we seek a dynamic colleague to join in teaching courses and guiding undergraduate research in biochemistry. The new faculty member will also likely share in teaching either general chemistry or liberal arts core chemistry for non-science majors. Research area is open within the broad field of biochemistry and must be suitable for undergraduate participation.

Staff Positions

Web Developer

Responsibilities include administering College web presence, infrastructure, server (IIS); maintain, develop, and implement enhancements to the current web site; create and maintain links between web applications and core systems. Develop a strategy to work with all College offices and departments, to promote the College’s message to provide our constituents with accurate, timely, web based content and services.

Characteristics: Problem solving, organization, work with minimal supervision, teamwork, adapt and support change. In depth working knowledge of HTML, ASP, ASP.NET, CSS, Photoshop, VB Script, Java, JavaScript, CMS, Windows Server, IIS, (Apache Tomcat), web-enabled DB environments, performance monitoring, web use/ tracking & reporting.

A Bachelor's degree and two or more years of related experience and/or training are needed or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Custodian

A full-time, third-shift position is now open for application. This shift requires a person to work from 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with a half-hour lunch, Sunday through Thursday. This individual will be a member of a high efficiency team and will be required to perform all types of cleaning in various buildings throughout the campus area.

Programmer Analyst

Responsibilities include integrating web, Microsoft applications, and enterprise solutions by developing applications using a combination of the following programming languages; ASP.NET, VB.Net, C#, VB Script, TSQL, and JavaScript in a professional environment. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server databases, reporting services (or Crystal Reports), integration services and analysis services. Working knowledge of Ellucian Colleague and or Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge in a higher education environment a plus.

A Bachelor's degree and two to four years related experience and/or training are desired. Microsoft Certified Developer credentials a plus; will work toward certification. Part-Time Staff Positions

Dow Center Hotel Guest Services Team Member

Work times will be based on occupancy with different work schedules each week (includes some weekends and must be flexible to work all shifts).  Hours will vary depending on occupancy and need.  Person will share in cleaning guest rooms, meeting rooms, public areas, and restrooms as well as conference room set-ups, laundry, and front desk operations.

Dow Center Hotel Weekend Night Auditor

Hours are Saturday and Sunday 11:30 p.m.–7:30 a.m. Primary duties are to analyze and process the daily work of the hotel and conference center while handling front desk operations. Must have basic office skills, an understanding of general math, experience using a computer along with bookkeeping/accounting.

Fraternity House Part-Time Cook

Two years of food preparation experience is preferred or an equivalent combination of education and training. Responsibilities include maintaining safety and cleanliness in kitchen area, meal planning, grocery shopping, and preparing lunch and dinner five days a week for up to 36 people during the school year. The cook will be required to plan and prepare meals with the house director and fraternity leadership for several special occasions throughout the school year.
