DONORS & FRIENDS

You Make Us Great.

At Hillsdale, we rely on the generosity of people who believe in the power of a truly independent education—one that isn’t constrained by the rules and regulations that go with government funding. Whether you choose to support Hillsdale in our mission to educate twenty-first-century leaders of character and integrity or for the ways in which we seek to elevate the civic conversation through Imprimis, our online courses, our Barney Charter School Initiative, or at our Kirby Center, your tax-deductible gift is an investment in the future of America.

Please take a moment and learn about all the ways your partnership matters to us.

No Federal Funding

To maintain our institutional independence, we accept no state or federal funding—even indirectly in the form of student grants or loans. Our financial aid packages are thanks to the gifts of hundreds of thousands of generous donors nationwide.

Hillsdale's Independence

Why is Hillsdale College’s independence so important?

Hillsdale was the first American college to prohibit by charter admissions discrimination based on race, sex, or religion. Standing on principle continues to define us.

By refusing even one penny of federal or state aid for grants, awards, loans, or scholarships, we free ourselves from educational regulation and programs imposed by the government. That means Hillsdale College must replace millions of dollars every year in student financial assistance and must raise monies for all college activities and programs from the private sector. Fortunately, independent-minded donors who share our principles of integrity and self-government support everything we do—from financial-aid assistance to one of the largest college lecture series in America.

Support Hillsdale

What does the College need, and how can I help?

Hillsdale College is in the midst of the Four Pillars Campaign, through which it is seeking funding for student scholarships and programs, K-12 education initiatives, national outreach, and more. Learn about the Four Pillars Campaign at fourpillars.hillsdale.edu.

Hillsdale College is a registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit institution. All charitable gifts are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

Endowment Fund

Why should I give to an Endowment Fund?

My gift will “keep on giving.” Hillsdale College has a long history of responsible and successful management of its endowment. Administered according to policies set forth by the Board of Trustees, these funds ensure support for scholarships, faculty chairs, lecture programs, and more, in perpetuity. Hillsdale College is able to recruit excellent students, hire the best faculty, and provide high-quality programming on and off campus, because these funds support those things year after year.
