Summer or Winter Break Study Abroad

Students join Hillsdale College faculty on a one- to-two-week guided study abroad in Latin America or Spain. These programs take place either during winter break (late December or early January) or in the summer (usually end of May or the beginning of June). Students live with host families during their stay abroad, and the program emphasizes the development of speaking skills through a variety of cultural, recreational, and educational experiences. Activities in Costa Rica may include hiking on the hanging bridges in the rainforest, a crocodile safari, zip lining through the canopy, visiting San José’s cathedral and Museo del Oro, and volunteering at an animal sanctuary. Activities in Spain may include visits to important architectural sites like the Cathedral of Seville and the Alhambra of Granada; Flamenco or Sevillana dance classes; cooking classes; volunteering for a non-profit organization; and a trip to the beach.
