From Alaska to Florida they came. The annual 50/60-Year Reunion event again brought Hillsdale College alumni back to campus to celebrate their anniversaries.

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The 2024 Emily Daugherty Award for Teaching Excellence was presented to Associate Professor of English Benedict Whalen. Faculty, students, and friends of Hillsdale College recognized Whalen at Spring Convocation on April 11.

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Members of the Hillsdale College 1974 and 1964 graduating classes returned to campus from April 10-12 to celebrate their 50- and 60-year class reunions. This year, those who graduated before 1974 were also invited to participate in the three-day event, which included campus and Halter Center tours, dinner with live music, cocktail receptions, trivia, and the opportunity to attend classes.

Dave Van Meter, '91, used his gritty, hard-nosed playing style on the Chargers basketball court. It was those qualities, as well as what he learned off the court at Hillsdale, that have helped propel him into a successful career in medical sales and entrepreneurship.

Reagan Reese Gensiejewski, '22, knew at age 16 that she wanted to be a journalist, and play softball in college as well. She landed a spot on the Chargers softball team, and currently works as a White House correspondent for The Daily Caller.

Recent Alumni Deaths

After participating in 4-H during high school, Kelsey Brakel, '12, knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. She praised the hands-on lab experiences and involved professors she had at Hillsdale. Now, Kelsey is an assistant professor in the veterinary diagnostic lab at Michigan State University.

Every week, professors and students from different language departments eat lunch together, talking in a foreign language for personal growth and enrichment.

About to land in Edinburgh, Scotland, Abby Idstein, ’25, looked out her window. Watching a beautiful sunrise above the clouds, she knew this would be a wonderful semester abroad.

In addition to these four required core courses, to complete the minor, students may take any combination of electives from Military Leadership and Military History courses.
