Military Leadership
The minor prepares students for commissioning as officers in the American armed forces but is open to all students and will be of value to those preparing for leadership roles in all fields, including business, the professions, politics, ministry, athletics, and education. The minor takes inspiration from the 500 Hillsdale College student volunteers who served in the Union Army during the Civil War. They exemplified the virtues of the American citizen-soldier ideal—duty, honor, courage, and patriotism. The Soldiers’ Monument in front of Central Hall stands as an object lesson to their service and sacrifice. The military leadership course of study prepares students to become leaders worthy of their legacy.
