Military Leadership Alumni: Kyle Froisland, ’20

Written by Kyle Froisland, ’20

I was born and raised in Blairstown, New Jersey, where I lived until moving to Hillsdale in 2016. At Hillsdale, I was a resident assistant in Galloway Dorm, president of the Golf Club, and a regular attendee of the math lunch club. Additionally, I attended Marine Corps Officer Candidates School in 2018 and 2019. I graduated cum laude in 2020 with a bachelor of science in economics and applied mathematics.

I was commissioned into the Marine Corps on May 9, 2020, upon graduation from Hillsdale. After attending the Basic School in Quantico, Virginia, I was assigned the Infantry MOS and went “across the street” to Infantry Officer Course where I graduated in September 2021. I checked in to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, the following month where I reside to this day. Since then, I have chopped to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) with which I will deploy as a platoon commander for a hybrid rifle and weapons platoon.

While at Hillsdale, I had the pleasure of taking “Sound Learning for Leadership,” “Military Leadership,” and “American Military Officership.” These courses were crucial for my personal and professional development prior to accepting my commission. The education I gained allowed me to better understand the ethos of a military officer and how I could embody this ethos.
