Hillsdale, Mich. — U.S. News & World Report (USN) has ranked Hillsdale College among 13 private colleges and universities across the nation that gave merit aid to the highest percentage of full-time students during the 2019-2020 academic year. Hillsdale College ranks eighth overall, having awarded 44 percent of its students merit aid for 2019-2020.

“Hillsdale College is proud to award scholarships to so many of its outstanding students without any help from federal and state taxpayer subsidies,” said Rich Moeggenberg, financial aid director. “We are grateful for all of our donors that make this possible, especially as the quality of our students and applicants continues to rise.”

USN gathered information from nearly 2,000 colleges and universities for its survey of undergraduate programs. The top 13 schools averaged around 46 percent of merit-based aid, while the average percentage offered among unranked schools was about 15 percent.

All 13 top-ranked schools are private institutions from across the country, and six are liberal arts colleges.

Hillsdale College is ranked 54th among USN’s “best national liberal arts colleges.” In 2020, 36 percent of its first-time, full-time applicants were admitted, and the 2020 incoming freshman class had ACT and SAT midranges of 29-33 and 1320-1450, respectively.
