Halter Center Hosts Halloween Clay Shoot and Exhibition
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center hosted the Halter Pumpkin Smash on Oct. 31. The two-hour event featured an opportunity for shooters of all ages to participate in clay shooting and watch a Halloween-themed shooting exhibition by members of the US national team and the Hillsdale College Shotgun team. For the exhibition, these professional and collegiate shooters took aim at nothing other than catapulted pumpkins.
“The exhibition was a smash hit,” said Caitlin Royer, assistant program development and competition manager. “I think that I can speak for my fellow shooters when I say that we’ve gone hunting before but never for pumpkins.”
Hillsdale College has been the official home of the USA Shooting National Team since 2019. In 2022, the Halter Center hosted the USA Shooting Junior Olympic Trap and Skeet development camps and championships.
The event provided an opportunity for local residents to enjoy the Halter Center and to get to know members of the US national and Hillsdale shooting teams. “Everyone — amateur, collegiate, and professional shooter alike — had a blast,” said Royer. “We look forward to hosting the Smash again next year.”
