Hillsdale Remembers Emeriti Trustee Robert Richardson

Dedicated Hillsdale friend passed away after many years of service to the college

Hillsdale, Mich. – Hillsdale College announced the passing of long-time friend and supporter of the college, Robert Richardson. Richardson, who served on the college’s Board of Trustees for 25 years, died on July 17, 2017, at 90 years old.

“Robert Richardson was an energetic and determined force for the good of this institution,” said Rich Péwé, chief administrative officer of Hillsdale College. “We grieve the loss of such a dedicated friend of Hillsdale and offer our deepest condolences to his family.”

Richardson’s decades of service to Hillsdale leave a great impact on the college. Because of Richardson’s generosity, the Hillsdale community enjoys the Richardson Heritage Room, Hillsdale Academy’s kindergarten classroom, and the Richardson Commons in the Grewcock Student Union. He also supported the education of Hillsdale College students through the Beverly Richardson Aid fund, the Dow Journalism Scholarship, and the Hillsdale Tradition Award.

Richardson leaves a legacy of success to the people and places he served. He built two businesses in his hometown of Elkhart, Indiana—Richardson Homes Corporation and Timberbrock, Inc.—and served as director of the Midwest Commerce Corporation and Midwest Commerce Banking Company. Richardson also dedicated his time and energy to improving the Elkhart community.

The funeral service in honor of Richardson was held on Saturday, July 22, 2017, in Elkhart, Indiana.
