Hillsdale, Mich. – Hillsdale College congratulates 2015 Hillsdale graduate Philip Wegmann on being awarded the 2018 Tony Blankley Chair for Public Policy and American Exceptionalism by the Steamboat Institute.

“Phil was a very good writer at Hillsdale College, and he’s only gotten better at The Washington Examiner,” said John J. Miller, director of the Dow Journalism Program at Hillsdale College. “He deserves this recognition, and I’m eager to see what comes next for him.”

While at Hillsdale, Wegmann wrote for the student newspaper and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history and politics. He was a staff writer and radio producer at The Federalist before joining The Daily Signal as a congressional correspondent, then moved to his current role as a commentary writer at The Washington Examiner. Wegmann was a fellow in the writing program at the America’s Future Foundation and completed a Publius Fellowship at the Claremont Institute.

“It is an honor to receive the Tony Blankley Chair for Public Policy and American Exceptionalism,” Wegmann said in a statement. “I look forward to continuing the proud tradition of the Blankley Fellowship by defending America’s founding principles shared by the Steamboat Institute and in doing so honor the legacy of Mr. Blankley.”

The Steamboat Institute created the Tony Blankley Chair for Public Policy and American Exceptionalism in 2013 to honor the work of accomplished conservative journalist and communicator Tony Blankley. The fellowship is intended to support and grow the impact of rising conservative voices. As a Tony Blankley Fellow, Wegmann will receive a stipend and participate in speaking engagements and networking events hosted by the Steamboat Institute, on topics such as free market capitalism, limited government, individual rights, limited taxes and strong national defense.

The 2018 Tony Blankley Chair was formally announced at the Steamboat Institute’s 10th Annual Freedom Conference and Festival on August 10 and 11. For more information about the award, click here.
