Frank “Muddy” Waters Stadium

The Chargers’ home football field since 1947, Frank “Muddy” Waters Stadium sits on the eastern side of the Roche Sports Complex and seats 8,500 spectators, with both home and away bleachers. The field was renamed after Waters, the program’s all-time winningest coach and a member of the first Hillsdale College Athletic Hall of Fame Class, in 1973. In the early 80s, “Muddy” Waters Field was rededicated as “Muddy” Waters Stadium after a seating expansion, the addition of a modern press box and presidential suite, and the replacement of the grass field with Astroturf. After briefly reverting back to natural grass in the mid-90s, Hillsdale installed a Pro Grass Artificial Turf surface in 2005. The most recent surface, installed in 2018 by the Maumee Turf Center from Oregon, Ohio, is the same type of field turf surface used in multiple Super Bowls in the last decade.
