Hillsdale College, an independent, four-year institution with a traditional liberal arts mission, seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in Art beginning August, 2017.

The successful candidate (MFA required) will teach all levels of oil painting and drawing. The artist should be firmly committed to representational artwork and craftsmanship. The successful candidate will also be required to teach at least one art history class per year. Preference will be given to candidates familiar with running a college art gallery. Candidates must demonstrate a solid blend of teaching, art production, and service to department and college, and a strong commitment to a traditional liberal arts mission.

Send a letter of application that presents (a) evidence of strong undergraduate teaching skills (b) a statement of the philosophy behind such teaching and (c) a separate statement responding to the College’s Mission Statement that includes a discussion of the candidate’s ability to teach in the light of those commitments.

The application must also include:

  • a curriculum vitae
  • three up-to-date letters of recommendation (including current email address for these professional references)
  • transcripts
  • a PDF or link to electronic portfolio of 15-20 images of candidate’s original artwork
  • a PDF of or link to 12 examples of student work produced under candidate’s direction, if available
