Pi Beta Phi

Hillsdale College

Pi Beta Phi was founded at Monmouth College, in Monmouth, Illinois, April 28, 1867. Its first name was I.C. Sorosis, the first national secret society of women to be modeled after the Greek letter fraternities of men. Twenty years later, on May 21, 1887, the seven chapter members petitioned, and the Michigan Alpha chapter was admitted into the sisterhood at Hillsdale College. Pi Beta Phi was the second sorority on campus. Pi Beta Phi was selected to come to the campus because it was then considered one of the strongest national sororities as well as the oldest. The Hillsdale chapter has consistently earned honors as a top sorority nationally.
