Darcy Affholter

Instructor in Early Childhood Education, Head Preschool Teacher
Teaching is much more than the responsibility to impart knowledge to students. Teaching is a chance to spark the desire to learn and achieve for all students. The most important thing that young minds discover during childhood is this process of learning. It then becomes the teacher's responsibility to ensure that this discovery of learning is well-rounded and well-integrated.

Biography

I am so thankful to have a career where I get to do what I love. Teaching and working with young children has been my passion since I can remember! I especially love being part of the amazing growth a child goes through between the ages of three and six; it is incredible to see them discover the world around them and take steps toward becoming an independent learner. I take seriously my role in helping each child develop a love for learning and encouraging each one to understand and develop their unique gifts and learning style. In my role in the education program here at Hillsdale, I am privileged to pass on this love for Early Childhood Education to the next generation of teachers.

When I am not teaching, you can find me with my amazing husband Brad on the sidelines or bleachers at one of our four kids’ games. I also enjoy coaching volleyball, leading worship and Bible study at our church, and cooking for friends and family.
