Biography

One of the things I love most about teaching accounting are the light bulb moments when you can see a concept take hold for a student, and what was once difficult to grasp now makes sense. My Principles of Accounting class works on a group project throughout the semester, and on the final day of class, they finish the project. It is one of my favorite days in the classroom because I get to listen to the students have conversations and communicate about a topic they didn’t know anything about only three months earlier. After all, communicating is really what accounting is about. It is capturing and communicating what happened so decisions can be made about what direction to go in the future.

Prior to joining Hillsdale College, my career has run the gamut from an auditor for a Big 4 accounting firm to a senior financial systems analyst for a billion dollar company. Teaching has always been my passion, no matter where I was. I have had the opportunity to work with and get to know wonderful people along the way that have taught me so much beyond what any textbook could. I try to bring as much of that as I can into the classroom.

When I am not on campus, I enjoy spending time with family, traveling, and watching my kids in all their various activities. Every once in a while, I even get to spend time with a good book.
