The Princeton Review Names Hillsdale College as One of Nation’s Best

Hillsdale College scores high in key categories: academics and quality of life

Hillsdale, Mich. – The Princeton Review again ranked Hillsdale among the “Best 382 Colleges” in the nation and one of the best colleges in the Midwest. Released on July 31, the annual survey ranks only 15 percent of the nation’s four-year colleges and placed Hillsdale highly in categories related to the quality of its academics and student life.

“We are gratified by this recognition,” said Dr. David Whalen, provost of Hillsdale College. “It demonstrates that a genuine liberal arts education is as relevant today as it has ever been.”

In addition to profiling the nation’s 382 best colleges, The Princeton Review produces lists of the top 20 schools in various categories. On these lists, Hillsdale College was ranked:

  • 4 for Most Religious Students
  • 6 for Professors Get High Marks
  • 7 for Best College Newspaper (increase from No. 9 in 2016)
  • 9 for Students Most Engaged in Community Service (increase from No. 17 in 2016)
  • 14 for Most Accessible Professors (increase from No. 17 in 2016)
  • 18 for Best-Run Colleges

Colleges are also given ratings on a scale of 60-99 in eight categories based on institutional data collected during the 2016-17 academic year and/or through student surveys conducted by The Princeton Review. Hillsdale College scored highly in several categories, including:

  • 98 for Professor Accessibility
  • 99 for Interesting Professors
  • 95 for Academics
  • 90 for Quality of Life
