Bradley J. Birzer to Address Hillsdale Academy Graduating Class of 2017

Hillsdale, Mich. — Hillsdale Academy today announced that Professor of History and author. Bradley J. Birzer will address the class of 2017 at its commencement exercises on Sunday, June 4.

Dr. Birzer is the Russell Amos Kirk Chair in American Studies and professor of history at Hillsdale College. He has written and edited several books and articles, most recently Russell Kirk: American Conservative, for which he won the Paolucci Book Award. A nationally-recognized speaker Dr. Birzer is particularly expert in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Dr. Birzer is a longtime friend of Hillsdale Academy and the father of five Academy students.

“We are excited that Dr. Birzer will be joining us for our graduation celebration and addressing our outgoing seniors,” said Kenneth Calvert, Hillsdale Academy Headmaster. “His experience and expertise in the Western tradition lends great wisdom for all preparing to become great citizens.”

Dr. Birzer received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and his doctorate from Indiana University. His books include Russell Kirk: American Conservative; Neil Peart: Cultural (Re)Percussions; American Cicero: Charles Carroll of Carrollton; Sanctifying the World: The Augustinian Life and Mind of Christopher Dawson; and J.R.R. Tolkien’s Sanctifying Myth.
