Chicago-Based Ballet 5:8 Performs at Hillsdale College
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted Ballet 5:8 for a performance on September 17. The company performed “Golden Sessions and Gospel Impressions,” which draws inspiration from C.S. Lewis’s “The Four Loves” and Makoto Fujimura’s “The Four Holy Gospels,” in Markel Auditorium. The performance was open to students, faculty, staff, and members of the Hillsdale community.
“Golden Sessions,” choreographed by Julianna Rubio Slager, brings to life the intricate nuances of affection, friendship, romance, and charity through choreography and a score by composers John Adams, Oliver Davis, and Ezio Bosso. “Gospel Impressions” adds layers of movement to the artwork of Makoto Fujimura’s The Four Holy Gospels, accompanied by a score from Rachmaninoff.
“Ballet 5:8 does an excellent job at fusing life and faith with relevant stories from the 21st century,” said Holly Hobbs, assistant professor of dance and director of Hillsdale College’s Tower Dancers. “It is really special to have hosted them here at Hillsdale College.”
This was the second installment of Hillsdale College’s Professional Artist Series for the 2023-2024 school year. To stay up-to-date with the fine arts, music-related events, and news, follow Hillsdale College Music on Facebook.
