Dwight Lindley Honored with Hillsdale College’s Daugherty Award for Teaching Excellence
Hillsdale, Mich. — Hillsdale College today awarded The Emily Daugherty Award for Teaching Excellence to Dr. Dwight Lindley, assistant professor of English.
“Dr. Lindley’s keen intelligence and unexcelled dedication to high learning make him an exemplary professor. Students rightly jump at the chance to study under his tutelage,” said David Whalen, Hillsdale College provost.
Lindley received his bachelor’s degree in English and history from Hillsdale College in 2004. After working on a farm for a year, Lindley studied Victorian literature at the University of Dallas where he received his master’s degree in 2008 and his Ph.D. in 2011.
Much of Lindley’s scholarly work has focused on John Henry Newman and George Eliot, while also exploring literature’s relation to reality. His writings have been published in Christianity and Literature, the Newman Studies Journal, and Renascence. He is a member of the North American Victorian Studies Association, the Newman Association of America, the Conference on Christianity and Literature, and the Midwest Victorian Studies Association.
Lindley joins 20 other Hillsdale professors who have received the Daugherty Award, which recognizes professors who demonstrate a mastery of their disciplines, dedication to their profession, commitment to student learning, exceptional academic advising, rigorous scholarly standards, and overall contributions to the College community.
The annual award is named in honor of Emily Daugherty, who taught in elementary and secondary schools and personified the finest traditions of the teaching profession. Daugherty devoted her life to transmitting knowledge, wisdom, and virtue to her students.
