Hillsdale College congratulates graduating senior Emily Oren for her performance during the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s (GLIAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships held May 4-6. Oren’s time of 9:50.54 in the 3000-meter steeplechase broke the school record, the GLIAC record, and the NCAA Division II national record. With this time, she qualified for the Olympic Trials in the event.

“Emily’s performance at the GLIAC Championships was outstanding,” said Andrew Towne, head track and field coach for Hillsdale College. “I’m extremely proud of her, both at the GLIAC Championships and the NCAA Championships, which were held over the weekend. It was exciting to watch her finish her excellent career as a Charger!”

Oren was named the Most Outstanding Female Running Athlete of the Meet for the second consecutive year, and finished her GLIAC career with a victory in the 5000-meter run, recording a time of 16:48.66.

Sophomore Hannah McIntyre won her first career GLIAC outdoor individual championship, winning the 10,000-meter run in 36:09.98. Senior Kristina Galat took third in the 1500-meter and fourth in the 5K. Junior Allison Duber took a third-place finish in the 400 at 55.55 seconds. Senior Corinne Zehner placed third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.73, and fifth in the 100 hurdles. Freshman Allysen Eads and sophomore Amanda Reagle took fourth and sixth place in the steeplechase, giving Hillsdale four of the top six competitors in that single event.

Hillsdale finished with 110.1 points, marking the fourth time since 2009 Hillsdale has accumulated more than 100 points at the GLIAC championships, and the first time the team finished second or better in back-to-back GLIAC outdoor championship meets since 1998-1999.
