Gershom Lecture Series

October 2, 2015 – Hillsdale, MI

Beyond Vatican II: The Catholic Church and Judaism in the Twenty-First Century

Hillsdale College Religion Department hosts the second annual Gershom Lectures on Judaism and Christianity. This year’s lecture series focuses on the 50th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, a statement of the Second Vatican Council on the Roman church’s relationship with non-Christian religions. A series of four discussions will explore how the statement transformed the Catholic view of Jewish people and their traditions.

Presenters for this year’s lecture include Dr. Mark Kinzer, author of Searching Her Own Mystery: Nostra Aetate, the Jewish People, and the Identity of the Church; Father Jean-Miguel Garrigues, of Toulouse, France, one of France’s most respected Catholic theologians and a collaborator with Christoph Cardinal Schönborn in the composition of the new Catechism of the Catholic Church; and Dr. Gary A. Anderson, Hesburgh Professor of Catholic Theology, University of Notre Dame.

The lectures are open to the general public and free of charge. They will be given in the Phillips Auditorium, located in the new Hillsdale College Searle Center on campus.
