Grand Rapids Ballet Company Performs at Hillsdale College
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted the Grand Rapids Ballet for a performance at the College’s Markel Auditorium on Sept. 10. This performance was the first installment of Hillsdale’s Professional Artist Series for the 2022-2023 academic year.
“The Grand Rapids Ballet always presents a captivating performance with both classical and contemporary choreography,” said Holly Hobbs, assistant professor of dance and director of Tower Dancers. “The performance provided a wonderful opportunity for students and audience members to experience professional ballet on the Markel Stage.”
The company presented four ballet pieces: “Mozart Symphony,” “Rendezvous,” “Presto,” and “Serenade.” The performance featured music by Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Bosso.
The Grand Rapids Ballet is a company of over 30 professional dancers from the United States and around the world. It is the only professional ballet company in the state of Michigan. Since 2018, the company has been under the artistic direction of James Sofranko. The 2022-2023 season marks the company’s 50-year anniversary.
