Guest Musician Tony Monaco Performs at Hillsdale College
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Tony Monaco, a master of the Hammond B-3 organ, performed a jazz concert at Hillsdale College in Plaster Auditorium on March 22 with members of the Hillsdale College music faculty Lori Lefevré, Larry Ochiltree, and Chris McCourry. Students, faculty, staff, and members of the Hillsdale community attended the concert.
“Tony’s mastery over his instrument is impressive,” said Chris McCourry, artist teacher of music. “That is the level of excellence we encourage our students to pursue, whatever instrument they play.” During the performance, Monaco played originals by Chris McCourry and standards such as “Alone Together” and “Round Midnight.”
Monaco started working in the music industry as a teenager at jazz clubs in Columbus, Ohio. For many years, he helped run a family restaurant while performing weekly in the lounge. He graduated from Franklin University in 1989 and is now a full-time musician and teacher, offering private instruction, classes and clinics, and a series of instructional DVDs. Monaco maintains a rigorous schedule of touring, festival performances, clinics, and workshops.
