Guest Violinist Hal Grossman Performs Violin Concert at Hillsdale College
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Professor of Violin at the University of Oregon and virtuoso soloist Hal Grossman performed at Hillsdale College on September 7, 2022. The performance included works by Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Steve Larson, and Bjorn Berkhout.
“Hal Grossman has been hailed by critics for his technique and artistic sense,” said Melissa Knecht, professor of music. “Seeing him perform is a great experience for our music students. His performance shows what can be accomplished through serious dedication to one’s craft.”
The performance was held in the Conrad Recital Hall in Hillsdale’s Howard Music Hall. It was attended by Hillsdale College students, faculty, and staff members, along with members of the local community.
“We are very fortunate to bring a talent like his to Hillsdale,” said Daniel Tacke, chairman of the music department. “I am thrilled so many people could experience his fine playing and captivating style.”
As concerto soloist, Grossman has appeared with American, European, and Canadian orchestras, including the Rochester Philharmonic, the North Carolina Symphony, Polish Sinfonietta, and the Illinois, Lima, Guelph, and Battle Creek symphonies.
Grossman is also the creator of The Grossman Method©, a teaching system that addresses musicians’ health and performance issues within an applied lesson structure. For his work, Grossman received a nomination for Outstanding Achievement in String Pedagogy by the American String Teachers Association in 2018.
