Hillsdale College Accepts Most Competitive Class in Its History
College admissions records reflect increasingly growing competition, accomplished applicants
Hillsdale, Mich. – Hillsdale College announces that, according to a recent review of admissions records, the class of 2022 is the most accomplished freshman class to date. Of 2,210 applicants, 37 percent were accepted—the lowest acceptance rate in the College’s history. First-time enrollees had an average high school GPA of 3.89 and an average ACT score of 31 (out of a possible 36)—the highest averages in the College’s history.
“We are delighted to see that Hillsdale is attracting such gifted students,” said Zack Miller, senior director of admissions at Hillsdale College. “Over the past ten years, we’ve received more and more applications of increasingly high caliber. Hillsdale attracts students from across the nation who seek out its rigorous, classical liberal arts curriculum. We’re excited to see this growth and look forward to what the next ten years will bring.”
Comparison with data from 2017-2018 and from ten years ago reveals both short-term and long-term growth. In 2017, 41 percent of applicants were accepted. In 2008, as many as 64 percent of applicants were accepted. Similarly, the average high-school GPA of an incoming student was 3.87 in 2017 and 3.73 in 2008. ACT scores increased as well, with an average score of 30 in 2017 and an average score of 28 in 2008.
