Hillsdale College Announces New Journalism Scholarship Program
Donors create endowed scholarship with matching grant challenge in honor of talk radio host Ron Jolly
Hillsdale, Mich. — Hillsdale College announces the establishment of the Ron Jolly Endowed Scholarship, a new scholarship program for radio journalism students. The scholarship, named in honor of radio talk show host Ron Jolly, is the result of a generous gift from an anonymous donor couple in Michigan.
The scholarship is currently part of a matching gift opportunity. From July 15 to 31, all money donated toward the scholarship will be doubled and invested into an endowment that will benefit students in radio journalism, with preference given to students from Michigan.
“It’s crucial that we really examine what journalism is and should be, and teach people proper journalism,” said Jolly, whose show broadcasts out of News Talk 580 WTCM in Traverse City, Michigan. “Match a classical education with journalism, and you’re going to produce responsible, trustworthy, knowledgeable journalists in the future.”
“We are grateful to the donors who established the Ron Jolly Endowed Scholarship,” said John J. Miller, Director of the Herbert H. Dow II Program in American Journalism at Hillsdale College. “Our student broadcasters and student-run radio station consistently win top regional and national honors, and this generous endowment will help students from Michigan to develop valuable skills in broadcast communication and rhetoric.”
