HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College announces the establishment of the Matt Suggs USA Shooting Travel Award to cover travel costs for student-athletes competing in Olympic-qualifying shooting sports events. Suggs, former CEO of USA Shooting, played an integral role in establishing the college’s partnership with USA Shooting, which made Hillsdale the official home of the USA Shooting National Team.

“The shooting sports program at Hillsdale College has become one of the most competitive because of Matt Suggs’ leadership and our partnership with USA Shooting,” said Rich Péwé, chief administrative officer at Hillsdale College. “The college established the Matt Suggs Travel Award in his memory to further enhance our programs, which not only train young athletes in shooting sports but also promote the principles of the U.S. Constitution.”

The Hillsdale College shotgun team has seen success in both national and international competitions. Senior Ida Brown won a silver medal during the Shotgun world cup in Nicosia, Cyprus, and freshman Jordan Sapp took home a gold medal at the ISSF World Championship in Osijek, Croatia. Most recently, sophomore Joshua Corbin competed in the ISSF World Cup in Rabat, Morocco. Both Brown and Corbin had qualified to travel, yet did not qualify for USA travel funds reserved for the top three shooters, and their travel would not have been possible without assistance from the college.

“I think the Suggs Award, our team’s recent track record at home and abroad, and our accomplished coaching staff makes Hillsdale College one of the most attractive collegiate shooting sports programs in the country,” said Jordan Hintz, head shotgun coach at Hillsdale College.

Through Suggs’ leadership, Hillsdale College became the home of the USA National Team in 2019. It hosts the Junior Nationals in rifle, both Junior and Senior Nationals in International Skeet and Trap, International Paralympic Grand Prix events, Olympic training camps, Junior World training camps, and Junior Olympic Development Camps.
