Hillsdale College Art Students Showcase Works in Fall Exhibit

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Fall Student Art Exhibit will feature all levels of student work from fall semester studio courses starting on Nov. 29. The free exhibit will remain open to the public through Dec. 10.

“The students worked hard this semester, and their efforts can be seen in the quality of the work produced,” said Julio Suarez, chairman of the Hillsdale College art department. “We are grateful that the students have the opportunity to showcase their work to the Hillsdale community.”

The exhibit features the work of students from beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses in design, drawing, oil painting, photography, and sculpture. On Nov. 29, several students were recognized during with a special awards ceremony:

  • Special faculty award for figure drawing: Katie Lannon and Meg Smith
  • Drawing: McKayla Faust, Katie Lannon, and Caroline Kurt
  • Painting: Isaac Ritzer, Gillian Ruch, and Anna Mason
  • Photography: Sophia Jackson, Grace Harris, and Kiri Forrester
  • Design: Claire Henzel, Kiri Forrester, and Jack Cote
  • Master Copy: Hannah Cheng, Eleanor Vaughn, and Claire Henzel
  • Sculpture: Theresa DiFranco, Joy Hanes, and Grace McNeil

“The students that voted for the awards had some difficult choices to make. The faculty agreed that all of the winners were deserving of the recognition,” said Suarez.

The exhibit is displayed at the Daughtrey Gallery in the Hillsdale College Fine Arts Building. It is open on Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Admission is free.

“There really is some fantastic work on display,” said Suarez. “I encourage everyone to come by and enjoy the students’ work before the holidays.”
