HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted its annual Fall Convocation in Christ Chapel on Nov. 16. Members of the college community gathered to honor the liberal arts academic tradition and celebrate the achievements of distinguished students and faculty.

The traditional academic ceremony takes place in Christ Chapel. The keynote speaker was Associate Professor of Psychology Collin Barnes, who spoke on psychology, the liberal arts, and the need for God’s grace. His address was titled, “Going Up.”

“Think of yourselves instead as students of the liberal arts and of human thought in general, strive to be good people — well-rounded ones. That’s what’ll make you what you want to become, and if you do that, you’ll eventually find that you’ve also become a good psychologist or really anything else you care to be,” said Barnes.

Hillsdale College Provost Chris VanOrman announced the spring 2023 grade point average and awards. Pi Beta Phi won the Sorority Scholarship Cup with a GPA of 3.588, and Alpha Tau Omega won the Fraternity Scholarship Cup with a GPA of 3.491. The all-women’s GPA was 3.546, and the all-men’s GPA was 3.402. The all-school grade point average was 3.474.

Dr. Arnn presented the Fall 2023 Emily Daugherty Award for Teaching Excellence to Anna Vincenzi, assistant professor of modern European history. “She’s one of our best teachers, one of our best scholars, and one of our most charming colleagues,” said Dr. Arnn.
