HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Choir and Chamber Choir performed their annual spring concert on April 21 at Christ Chapel. Hillsdale College faculty, staff, students, and friends attended the concert, which was directed by Director of Orchestras and Choirs James Holleman.

“Conducting the students at Hillsdale has been a great joy. Students are dedicated to creating beauty through music,” said Holleman. “Every member of these choirs gave immense effort, which culminated in an extraordinary performance.”

The choirs performed Mozart’s “Requiem for Choir and Orchestra,” following a set of a cappella pieces performed by the College Chamber Choir. During the performance, graduating seniors were recognized.

“This semester’s project of preparing Mozart’s monumental work, ‘Requiem,’ was a joyous experience. All of the students of the College Choir were fully engaged in the magnitude of this work, were focused on details, and performed with enthusiasm and skill. It was a highlight of the year,” said Holleman. The Chamber Choir beautifully performed a set of individual a cappella pieces to start the concert. Included in the chamber choir’s set was the world premiere of Jeffery Cobb’s “In Monte Oliveti.”

The Hillsdale College Choir is a mixed choral ensemble open to all Hillsdale College students. The Chamber Choir is selected by audition from among the larger Hillsdale College Choir. More than 25 percent of Hillsdale College’s student body participate in one or more of the College’s music ensembles.
