Hillsdale College Faculty Performs at Conrad Recital Hall
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College Instructor of Voice Kristi Matson and Artist Teacher of Piano and Director of Keyboard Studies Brad Blackham performed a collaborative recital at Conrad Recital Hall on August 25 and 27.
The performances included Claude Debussy’s Proses Lyriques, Carl Vine’s Piano Sonata No. 1, and a tribute to Stephen Sondheim. “The program presented a very interesting blend of established classical works and selections from music theatre,” said Daniel Tacke, chair of the Hillsdale College Music Department. “Kristi and Brad are equally at home in both worlds, and it was a great opportunity for the audience to experience their capabilities as performers.”
Matson joined Hillsdale College in 2012 as an Instructor of Voice, teaching individual and class voice lessons. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from Otterbein University and a Master of Music from The Cleveland Institute of Music. Matson’s achievements include being a finalist in the Opera Columbus Vocal Competition and participating in master classes with renowned artists. Blackham has been at Hillsdale College since 2005 as an Artist Teacher of Piano and Director of Keyboard Studies. He studied at institutions like the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory, Cleveland Institute of Music, and The Ohio State University. Blackham has performed with prestigious orchestras at notable venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Severance Hall, and Het Concertgebouw.
