Hillsdale College Faculty Publish Across a Variety of Disciplines, Topics

College commends faculty for their scholarly contributions

Hillsdale, Mich. – Hillsdale College congratulates seven of its faculty members for publishing books in 2018. Their work spans a range of disciplines and topics.

“When we select our Hillsdale faculty, we look for excellent teachers of the deepest learning. That learning naturally results in important scholarly contributions such as we celebrate now,” said David Whalen, Hillsdale College provost. “These professors have remarkable insights and ideas to share. It is especially encouraging that their work will reach beyond the classroom to a wider audience.”

The books published by Hillsdale College faculty this year include:

Still Protesting: Why the Reformation Matters by Darryl Hart, distinguished associate professor of history;

In Defense of Andrew Jackson by Bradley Birzer, professor of history and Russell Amos Kirk chair in American studies;

War and Remembrance: The Story of the American Battle Monuments Commission by Thomas Conner, William P. Harris chair in military history and professor of history;

A Fiery Gospel: The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the Road to Righteous War by Richard Gamble, professor of history and Anna Margaret Ross Alexander chair in history and politics;

The Soul of Statesmanship: Shakespeare on Nature, Virtue, and Political Wisdom by Khalil Habib, associate professor of politics;

On the Law of Nature: A Demonstrative Method by Niels Hemmingsen, translated and edited by Eric Hutchinson, associate professor of classics, and introduced by Hutchinson and Korey Maas, assistant professor of history;

The Routledge Handbook of the Philosophy and Psychology of Luck, co-edited by Ian Church, assistant professor of philosophy.
