Hillsdale College Features the Reduced Shakespeare Company
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College presented its seventh Professional Artist Series installment of the school year, hosting the Reduced Shakespeare Company. Students and community members watched as the company performed “The Complete History of Comedy (abridged)” in the Markel Auditorium on March 21.
“We are delighted to bring the illustrious Reduced Shakespeare Company to the campus community,” says Christopher Matsos, chair of the Hillsdale College theatre department. “The Reduced Shakespeare Company’s brand of humor will resonate particularly well with our students and faculty, since it takes its cues from the classics that inspire us.”
“The Complete History of Comedy (abridged)” covers comedy through the ages, from Aristophanes and Shakespeare and Moliere to Vaudeville and Charlie Chaplin to The Daily Show and Anthony Weiner.
The Reduced Shakespeare Company was founded in 1981 and has produced ten stage shows, two television specials, and many radio pieces. The company has performed at the White House, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, London’s West End, and at many other venues worldwide.
