HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Fine Arts department featured artwork by Jim Gray in its Daughtery Art Gallery from Oct. 7 to Nov. 16. The gallery opened to the public and college students, staff, and faculty with a reception on Oct. 7.

Gray, who passed away in 2019, traveled across the country and world capturing natural, city, and rural scenes in watercolor and oil. Hillsdale’s Daughtery Art Gallery featured Gray’s “Out of the Mountains” collection, a portfolio of Gray’s prints and paintings of coastal Maine, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee, and the white sand beaches of southern Alabama.

“Gray was a prolific and commercially successful artist that captured the beauty of nature in a realistic and moving way,” said Julio Suarez, department chair and professor of art at Hillsdale College. “We are grateful that we could bring a collection that shows a lifetime of work to the Hillsdale community.”

This gallery was the second installment of Hillsdale College’s Professional Artist Series for the 2022-2023 academic year.
