Hillsdale College Fine Arts Holds College Symphony Orchestra
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College’s Symphony Orchestra opened their 2022-2023 season on Oct. 22 and 23, performing George Gershwin’s “An American in Paris” and Tchaikovsky’s “Pathétique” in Christ Chapel. These performances occurred during the annual fall Parents Weekend, allowing for students and their families to attend. Around 1,500 people attended the performances.
“The tradition of presenting an orchestra concert for fall Parents Weekend is a thrill for the orchestra students,” James Holleman, music director, said. “The diligent work ethic and passion for the repertoire the students brought to the rehearsal process has been terrific, all while balancing rigorous academic responsibilities. We are already looking forward to our next symphony concert.”
Hillsdale’s orchestra is a full-instrumentation college symphony orchestra that performs an advanced standard repertoire. Any student with sufficient performing skill may become an orchestra member by audition or by recommendation of Hillsdale College’s music studio teachers. Performances often feature faculty, student, and guest soloists.
The Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra hosts multiple performances throughout the year that are open to the public. The Orchestra will be performing with the College Choir and Chamber Choir at 3 p.m. on Nov. 20.
