HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College students and members of the Hillsdale College for Life club attended this year’s March for Life rally in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 20. The student group has marched in the rally annually since 2011. Approximately 150 students made the overnight bus trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in the march, which has occurred annually since 1974.

This year was the first March for Life after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the theme for the 2023 march was “Next Steps: Marching in a Post-Roe America.” “I think that it is clear that the fight for pro-life causes was not concluded by the Supreme Court’s decision to send the question of abortion back to the individual states,” said Fred Yaniga, faculty advisor for Hillsdale College for Life. “Whether students continue to attend the March in D.C. or take on more local involvement in pro-life causes, I believe that cherishing and defending human dignity in all its forms is another fight that Hillsdale students can and should proudly take up.”

Hillsdale College for Life, Protect Life Michigan, and the Student Federation, which allotted about $11,000 for the event, all contributed to the student trip. Right to Life of Hillsdale County, a local pro-life group, covered the remaining cost, student fees excluded. Participating students paid a small fee, which covered a roundtrip on a charter bus, breakfast, and a one-night stay in a D.C. hotel.
