HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Great Opportunities for Assistance and Leadership Program hosted its annual Day of Service on April 1. More than 350 students participated in community service projects to serve the Hillsdale community.

“Day of Service is a great way for students to get together and give back to the Hillsdale community,” said Rachel Marinko, director of student programs. “I am proud of the hard work of the students and of their dedication to service and leadership.”

Student GOAL program leaders created several projects for student teams to assist with for Day of Service. Teams from dormitories, Greek houses, off-campus residences, athletic teams, alumni groups, and other organizations participated. Projects included cleaning up trash and debris from local parks, cemeteries, the fairgrounds, and local residents’ homes and spring cleaning at the Community Action Agency Preschool, Crossroads Farm, Salvation Army, and St. Paul’s Ability Resource Center.

The GOAL Program provides opportunities for Hillsdale College students to serve the local community. Made up of 25 student groups, the program connects students and local groups to serve those in need. GOAL’s mission is to give students “the opportunity to bring alive the volunteer spirit that has been a part of Hillsdale College throughout its history” and promote “service above self, providing unity and focus to existent campus-wide volunteer activities.” Groups partner with other Hillsdale-area community service, education, ministry, and mentorship programs.
