Hillsdale College Graduate Awarded Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Claire McNally, a recent graduate of Hillsdale College, was awarded a fellowship worth $8,500 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. McNally is one of 54 recipients to receive this level fellowship.
“Claire McNally exemplifies a student with an enthusiastic love of learning and displayed a readiness for graduate-level research early in her Hillsdale career,” said Assistant Professor of Biology Christopher Heckel. “I recommended her for a fellowship because I expect her to not only succeed but to thrive as a graduate student.”
Every year, the fellowship is open to graduating Phi Kappa Phi members who will pursue graduate studies in the following year. The chapter invites eligible students to apply, and the faculty officers review applications and select one student to be the chapter’s nominee. Since 2016, five Hillsdale College students have been awarded fellowships.
Phi Kappa Phi reviews applications from more than 300 chapters and selects fellowship recipients based on academic achievement, service and leadership experience, letters of recommendation, a personal statement, work samples, and acceptance at an approved graduate program.
McNally received a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry — graduating in May 2022 with a 3.92 GPA. She will pursue a Ph.D. in genetic, genomics, and development from Cornell University.
