Hillsdale College Graduating Senior Commissioned by U.S. Marine Corps
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College congratulates Meghan McKeogh on her commission to the U.S. Marine Corps. The college hosted an outdoor ceremony at the Civil War Soldiers’ Monument on May 13 to honor McKeogh’s achievement and willingness to serve.
Peter Jennings, associate professor of management and former Marine infantry officer, provided an address at the ceremony. “In the history of our republic, the final guarantee of Constitutional self-government has been the willingness of patriotic and able men and women to stand, to take the oath of office, and to serve,” said Jennings. “As military men and women, it is not their task to become embroiled in the great ongoing political battles; their task is simply to stand and to serve and, in so doing, to give Constitutional self-government and the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, one more chance for one more generation.”
McKeogh of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, majored in rhetoric and public address. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, the Catholic Society, and the Charger Cheerleading squad. She belonged to the Lambda Pi Eta and Eta Sigma Phi honoraries and worked as a lifeguard at the sports complex.
