HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College announces its newest Judith Finn Memorial Award winner, Nathan Neveau. Neveau will receive his master’s degree this year in politics from the College’s Van Andel Graduate School of Statesmanship. Neveau’s academic interests include the relationship between Christianity, politics, and education.

“Nathan is a diligent and dedicated student,” said Ronald J. Pestritto, dean of the graduate school and professor of politics. “We are proud to recognize his impressive work and know he will go on to great things.”

The Judith Finn Memorial Award is presented each spring to a Hillsdale College master’s graduate based on quality of thesis or comprehensive exam performance, and overall graduate program performance. The winner is selected by a committee from the graduate school.

“I am honored to receive the Judith Finn Memorial Award,” said Neveau. “Judith was right to recognize the value of an education from the Van Andel School of Statesmanship. I pray those of us who have been fortunate enough to enjoy this privilege will prove ourselves to be worthy of it by living our lives as nobly as Judith lived hers.”

Upon graduation, Neveau will pursue a career as a teacher and administrator in a classical school. This fall, he will begin this career as a ninth-grade literature teacher and as athletic director for Hillsdale Academy.

Neveau grew up in Wisconsin before coming to Hillsdale College for his undergraduate education. At Hillsdale, he majored in religion and minored in accounting. He was also a three-year starter and team captain for the varsity basketball team. After graduating in 2019, Neveau worked for a campus ministry for a year before starting graduate school.

Neveau is married to Ashlyn Neveau, a 2016 graduate of Hillsdale College. Their first child, Nora Joy Neveau, was born in January of this year.

About the Judith Finn Memorial Award

The Judith Finn Memorial Award was established by Finn’s husband, Michael Finn, and family following her passing in 2015. It honors her legacy of civic engagement and scholarly work. Finn earned a master’s degree in political science from Michigan State University but, as noted by her family, “would have much preferred a degree from Hillsdale College had its graduate school been established 50 years earlier.”
