HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted its annual Ladies for Liberty and Couples for Liberty Camps at the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center. Through training and lessons on gun safety, the Liberty Shooting Camps seek to increase participants’ confidence and skill in shooting sports. Campers also heard lectures from Hillsdale College faculty on the U.S. Constitution and Second Amendment.

“We help people take the first steps toward being capable of defending themselves and their rights as Americans,” said Morgan Morrison, program director. “This camp is a great opportunity to learn about the Second Amendment, form new friendships with like-minded individuals, and improve shooting skills in various disciplines.”

The Couples for Liberty Camps ran from July 15-18, August 12-15, and September 7-10. The Ladies for Liberty Camps ran from July 18-21 and August 15-18. More than 160 participants attended the camps.

Participants received instruction in the fundamentals of pistol, shotgun, and bow shooting. “The people who come to these camps have a lot of fun,” said Sheila Hoekstra, head pistol instructor. “There is a sense of comradery that comes with learning and practicing. The result is often lasting friendship.”

On campus accommodations were provided at the Dow Hotel and Conference Center. Meals were provided by Metz catering services. “The college has amazing facilities and makes camps like these possible,” said Sheila Brey, firearms instructor. “We have a qualified group of individuals who ensure the safety and success of this event.”
