Hillsdale College Hosts Palm Sunday “Passion Song: A Meditation on the Passion of Christ
HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Chapel Choir and the Office of the Chaplain presented a service of sacred music on Palm Sunday titled “Passion Song: A Meditation on the Passion of Christ” on April 2 in Christ Chapel. The performance featured guest artists Adrian Leskiw, Noah Rogers, and the Three Notch’d Road Baroque Ensemble.
“The sacred concert was designed as a service of scripture and music to meditate upon the story of Christ’s arrest, trial, and execution,” said Associate Professor of Music and Director of Sacred Music Timothy McDonnell. The centerpiece of the event was a performance of a section of J.S. Bach’s “Passion from the Gospel of St. John.” Selections from the Old Testament which prophesize the Messiah as a ‘suffering servant’ were interspersed with selections of Bach’s dramatic musical representation of the events at the end of Christ’s life. The congregation was invited to sing well-known hymns associated with Lent and Holy Week.
“Palm Sunday is a day of great reflection,” said Hillsdale College Chaplain Adam Rick. “We are preparing ourselves for the annual remembrance of our Lord’s passion for our redemption. We are blessed to have such a wonderful and encouraging atmosphere where we can celebrate Jesus’ conquering of death.”
