Hillsdale College in D.C. Announces New James Madison Fellowship Class
HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College is pleased to announce the 2023-2024 James Madison Fellowship Class.
As part of the college’s D.C. campus programming, the fellowship is open to professionals working in the nation’s capital who want to think through the most important political and social problems confronting the country. The James Madison Fellows meet once a month to discuss issues such as identity politics, immigration, national security, marriage and family, free speech, the rule of law, and the aims of American foreign policy.
The 2023-2024 fellows are:
• Clare Basil — policy advisor for the U.S. Senate Steering Committee
• Duncan Braid — program & policy manager at American Compass
• Seamus Brennan — principal at Wrigley Strategies
• Ted Ellis — director of coalitions & member services for the U.S. House Republican Study Committee
• Andrew Guernsey — executive director for the U.S. Senate Pro-Life Caucus
• Brian Hawkins — senior director of external affairs at People United for Privacy Foundation
• Troup Calhoun Hemenway — president at Personnel Policy Operations
• Steven C. Hough — trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division
• Ross Hougham — assistant director of student programs at the Heritage Foundation
• Jack Lincoln — legislative director for Rep. Ken Calvert (CA-41)
• Mary Margaret Olohan — senior reporter at the Daily Signal
• Jeff Naft — communications director for the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence
• Jon Schweppe — policy director at American Principles Project
• Craig Trainor — U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary
• Emma Waters — research associate at the Heritage Foundation
“This is a very strong class,” said David Azerrad, an assistant professor at Hillsdale’s Van Andel Graduate School of Government. “The fellows bring both deep and wide experience in varying fields and they are eager to think through the tough questions facing our country.”
