HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Hillsdale College Big Band performed at the 56th annual Elmhurst Jazz Festival on Feb. 25. Guest artists and jazz bands from other colleges and universities attended and performed at the festival. The band played “All the Things You Are,” “Human Error,” “Jamie,” and “On the Sunny Side of the Street.”

“The band did an excellent job sharing these pieces,” said Chris McCourry, director of jazz ensembles and teacher of music at Hillsdale College. “I am proud of the renewed interest in jazz at Hillsdale and the role that Big Band has played in that interest.” The Elmhurst Jazz Festival, hosted by Elmhurst University, grew out of the former American College Jazz Festival and serves as a forum for jazz education. During the past half-century, the festival has hosted some of the most iconic figures in the modern jazz movement.
