HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College announces its newest online course, “American Foreign Policy,” taught by Michael Anton, who served in the National Security Council in both the George W. Bush and Donald Trump White Houses. It was released on August 8.

The course examines American foreign policy beginning with the American Founding and continuing through today, highlighting the shift away from the principles of the Founders and toward a modern liberal international order. “This course explains the foreign policy of the American Founders and uses their original framework to evaluate the key foreign policy strategies and events in our nation’s history,” said Kyle Murnen, director of online learning at Hillsdale College.

“As a school that works tirelessly to pass on the American Founders’ wisdom, we believe our students ought to learn from the triumphs and trials of the statesmen who have helped our country navigate an often perilous world,” said Anton. “This debate is more relevant than ever as the Cold War-9/11 foreign policy consensus fades into the past.”

Anton is a lecturer in politics at Hillsdale College and a fellow at the Claremont Institute in Claremont, California. He previously served in national security positions in the Trump and Bush (43) administrations, as well as in the administrations of California Governor Pete Wilson and New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. He was educated at the Claremont Graduate University, St. John’s College, and the University of California. He is the author of “After the Flight 93 Election: The Vote that Saved America and What We Still Have to Lose” and “The Stakes: America at the Point of No Return.”

“American Foreign Policy” includes lessons on:
• The Founding
• Wars of the Early Republic
• Progressive Foreign Policy
• The Interventionist Debate
• Victory of Liberal Internationalism
• The Containment of Communism
• The Nuclear Threat
• Post-Cold War: Retrench or Expand?
• The Liberal International Order
