HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College offered an Ash Wednesday service in Christ Chapel on February 22. The service was led by Adam Rick, Hillsdale College chaplain. Students, faculty, staff, and members of the local community were invited to attend.

The service consisted of scripture lessons, prayers, penitence, and the imposition of ashes. “Lent is a time of penance and reconciliation,” said Rick. “We are grateful to be able to host an Ash Wednesday service that helps us to meditate upon these things and to grow closer to God.”

Ash Wednesday signifies the first day of Lent, the holy season leading up to Easter Sunday. Those that observe Lent are encouraged to prepare for Christ’s death and resurrection as He did Himself: fasting and praying for forty days and forty nights.
